October 28 - 31

Student Learning

  • These are the sight words we practiced this week:
    • away
    • back
    • be
  • Look for these words in the books you read together.
  • In math, we worked on sorting our pumpkins from largest to smallest. Thank you again for all of the donations!

  • We talked about the different ways that pumpkins could be measured. We used the non-standard unit of unifix cubes to measure the height, weight and circumference of our pumpkins.

  • Ask your child to share what it means to measure the height of a pumpkin. Ask them to tell why the yarn was a useful tool to measure the circumference.
  • We also worked on counting the seeds in our pumpkin. Thank you again to the lovely volunteers who made this possible.

  • Here were the final numbers for the pumpkin seeds:

  • The numbers in black squares were our estimates and the numbers in red were the actual number of seeds. Ask your child to consider why it helped to make groups of ten when trying to count how many seeds were in a pumpkin.
  • We tried the pumpkin cookies at snack time on Thursday. Ask your child to share what they thought of the cookie. Many described it as "chewy" and "like a cake".
Classroom Updates:
  • Our planned pond visit on Monday was cancelled as it was quite cold. We would like to do our pond walk on Thursday, November 7 th instead. Please ensure your child is dressed for the weather.
  • Our Remembrance Day Assembly is on Friday, November 8th. We will be collecting poppy donations over the next week to support Veterans and their families.
  • Students that are in service clubs such as Beavers, Cubs, Brownies, Sparks, Cadets, CGIT, etc. are invited to wear their uniforms for our service on Friday.
  • Thank you so much for your donations to our "We Scare Hunger" campaign. Our final food count was 267 items of food. We beat our goal twice! Amazing!
  • Book orders went home on Thursday and are due on November 22nd. This will be the last book order before Christmas.
  • We have created a signup for reading and classroom volunteers. If you are a cleared volunteer with the CBE and you have not received the link for the signup, please email your child's teacher.
